Ballet with Ms. Jane Caputo

Ms. Caputo is our new Master Teacher and she is offering classes in Ballet I through IV (en pointe).  Ms. Caputo studied with Edward Villella and Mimi Paul (NYC Ballet), Victoria Shifflett (American Ballet Theater).  Her teaching method is Vaganova-based with influences from the Royal Ballet School and the Cecchetti Method.  Advanced students will benefit from her Balanchine Method.

Students will be taught classical ballet with emphasis on technique, placement, posture, execution, musicality, ballet vocabulary (French), poise, grace, elegance and joy.

Performing is the ultimate goal and reward for the students put forth in technique classes.  In Repertoire class, the student uses the skills she or he learns in technique classes to master and execute steps and phrases in story ballet’s such as “Dances in a Secret Garden”, “The Nutcracker” and “Legend of the Witch Moll Dyer.”   The students develop team work, cooperation, professional courtesy, discipline and poise, qualities that will remain with them throughout their lives.

Class assignments and pointe work are at the discretion of Ms. Caputo after a consultation with the student.  Ages indicated below are suggested. See page bottom for dress wear.

Tap & Jazz

Our new dance program includes a basic jazz warm-up and stretch, introduction to jazz technique and progressions, simple combinations to a variety of popular music including pop, rock, musical theater, world music, and hip hop.  We will explore basic tap technique and terminology, and develop simple routines. Ages 7 - 11.

Yoga Kids

YogaKids is an innovative program that combines and teaches traditional yoga with new theories of multiple learning styles in a playful, engaging, and creative approach to children and their education.  YogaKids uses elements - such as anatomy, reading books, math, music, visual art, ecology, language, and relaxation - with poses to encourage learning and exercise as a springboard to a healthy mind, body, and spirit.  The poses will give children an avenue to practice strength, balance, flexibility, concentration, self awareness, compassion and much more. Ages 3 - 6.

MTDkids Workshop - Spring Vacation Class

Over the years, MTD - the Musical Theater Dance Kids Workshop - has prepared students and presented a wide range of productions ranging from Broadway standards to original creations, delighting the participants and audiences alike.

This is a five-day, performance-based workshop where kids learn the basics of singing, dancing, and art. At the end of the week the three disciplines come together for a fun, creative production for family and friends. Children should bring a brown bag lunch and "dress for a mess" in the art room.   Ages 6 - 12.
