Childrens Art with Ms. Pettibone

Ms. Pettibone, as she is affectionately known to her students, has been a favorite art teacher on the Cape for more than a dozen years. A summa cum laude graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design, she brings her enthusiasm for art to her classroom, creating a warm, positive and creative atmosphere for all young artists.

Bizarre & Beautiful Crafts

Not your grandmother’s crafts class. Explore unusual approaches to craft-making while making unique objects of art.  Express your artistic side in fantastic ways in this fun and fast-paced class.

Ages 9-12

Creatures Great & Small
8 weeks

For kids who love animals, real or imaginary. Practice drawing and painting your favorite animals using models, books, magazines and quick lessons. We will also work with clay and other modeling materials to make our own creatures to take home.

Note: classes will be held on November 4 (Election Day) and 11 (Veteran's Day)

Drawing & Painting
8 weeks

Relax and work with your favorite drawing and painting materials. We begin each lesson with exercises designed to heighten a student’s awareness of line, shape, color and composition. Students will then incorporate these lessons by drawing or painting an imaginary subject or working from a small still life they set up in the classroom.

Ages 2-3 With You & Me

For young children with their parent/ caregiver (who participate in the class), this is a gentle, supportive way to introduce children ages 2-3 to art.  Promotes fine-motor skills and creativity in a unique bonding experience.

An exciting introduction to art for preschoolers in a warm, supportive environment.  Kid-friendly projects are designed to highlight the creative process of making art, exploring a wealth of non-toxic materials, such as various paints, glue, clay and drawing materials.

High School Painting and Portfolio                 with Loretta Feeney

High school students looking to develop or strengthen their portfolios for art school consideration or just get a head start with advanced studies in the arts will enjoy working with one of New England’s top artists and teachers. This class will offer instruction in drawing, watercolors and oils catering to the student’s individual preferences and needs.

Have Fun with Photography with Doug Long

It's no wonder this has become one of our favorite courses.

You'll learn from the master how to turn snapshots into beautiful, memorable photographs.   Doug is a friendly professional who will make you completely comfortable as you learn the secrets of getting the most out of your digital or film camera by focusing on key techniques of composition, exposure, light and shadow, action shots and much more.

You'll be introduced to photography's Great Themes as you work on portraits (self portraits, family and pet portraits with a live furry model named Ali), nature (from flowers to landscapes), classic still life, macro photography and more! Have fun painting with light and participating in a photo scavenger hunt among other adventures.

The course includes an optional trip on October 23 to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester; and dinner in a private room at Daniel Webster's original homestead in Marshfield ($149).

Clay for Kids              with Maura Hempstead

Clay Club:

Come have some fun!  Pinch, coil, build slab pots, sculpt clay creatures, and spin the wheel and watch it fly.  This 4-week course will cover the many fine facets of clay; handbuilding, wheel throwing glaze techniques.

Teen Art with Sarah Ahrens

Monday Teen Art Portfolio Workshops, ages 13 and up

In these 4-week artist workshops, taught by Sarah Ahrens, an experienced middle and high school art teacher, students will create inspired work for their developing art portfolios. We are excited to offer our students the following exciting Fall series:

Acrylic Paintings on Canvas

Students learn the multi-facetted process of creating a layered acrylic painting on stretched canvas. Working on wooden easels, students explore color mixing, texture, form and line to create work of which they can be proud!

Art Wizards                 

In this popular class, students explore the artful depths of make-believe! Young art adventurers will build earth-friendly fairy and gnome homes from recyclable objects, plaster and natural materials. We'll then conjure up fairy tale adventures as we create 3D sculptural book forms. Special "potions" will become mystical paintings as we experiment with wondrous new materials and techniques. Join us as we take our imaginations on a magic carpet ride!

Wire Sculpture               

Using fine gauge wire, students construct incredible contour line drawings and whimsical sculptures using the lines and form of their favorite shoe as inspiration! Grab your sneaker (or boot, or clog, or slipper...) and join us!
