For the Love of Music with John Schlee
You will appreciate music in a whole new way from this fascinating series that includes comprehensive audio and video support materials.
The first six–week session provides a fundamental introduction to musical forms followed an in-depth look at what inspired the Masters: Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Mahler and Tchaikovsky.
The Second Session focuses on the opera of Puccini with an intimate look at his masterpiece, Tosca. Additionally you’ll enjoy a study of Brahms – includuing Andre Previn’s remarkable analysis of the Brahms 4th – Stravinsky, Verdi's incomparable Aida and several Gershwin piano pieces.
The course wraps up with Be Careful What You Leave Behind – a look at how composers took the work of others – such as Resphigi, Prokofiev
Brahms, Handel, Rubbra and Paganini
and Rachmaninoff – and created entirely new masterpieces. We'll also look at three "mislaid-forbidden-abandoned" symphonies by Grieg, Bizet and Bruckner.
