Music Technology Lab

This Summer favorite is back!  

Who knew learning music could be this much fun! The incredible Music Technology Lab provides students of all ages and proficiency levels a remarkable new way to learn music.

This exciting approach combines the amazing versatility of digital pianos with powerful computer software - to make learning a blast!  Students will explore sounds, textures and effects and create music inspired by the week's theme. Each student will create their very own CD! Kids will spend 90 minutes working on projects centered around a fun theme. A musical showcase will be presented for friends and family on Fridays.

 

July 27 - 31:  Carnival!    

Step right up and enjoy all the exciting and wonderful sights and sounds of the Carnival - including clowns, animals and lots more!       

Monday - Friday

Ages 7 - 9   9:30 - 11 am    

Ages 9 - 12    

11am - 12:30 pm

Make Your Own Music

and your own CD!!

You'll get an easy and fun introduction to improvisation and composition using today's digital techniques.  Students will use our digital pianos and a wide variety of computer synthesized instruments for jamming and making a CD.  The goal is to provide early exposure to creative genres of music including jazz and rock and learning music basics while having lots of fun.

Old students will also get exposure to creative genres of music including jazz and rock and apply previous music training to the exploration of new forms.

Limit two students per class to maximize personal instruction.

AUGUST

Four Weeks, Monday - Friday

Grades 2 - 5      10 am to noon

Grades 6 - 8      1:00 - 3:00 pm

Pick one day or more!

Children's Book Illustration

with Christina Jacobi and Dawna Hammers

Practice the art of illustrating as you create your very own character and story.  We will begin with drawing exercises to perfect your character, and end with a finished product - your very own children's book!  Ages 10+ .

Color in Nature

with Dawna Hammers

This class offers practice with observational drawing and color, through the use of oil pastels.  We will sketch outdoors, using our natural surroundings as inspiration for vibrant color studies.  In the event of rain, we will work from photographs and alternative sources indoors.

Integrated Arts

Early Childhood educator and long-time Falmouth favorite Sheila Payne once again invites young children to develop their natural creativity and imaginations in this always-popular class.  Students will explore sound, music, art, folk songs and creative expression in a joyful celebration of the Arts.  Cool creative creations go home every day!  Ages 5 - 7

Creative Movement

This class introduces young children to dance in a gentle and nurturing environment. We use familiar games and props to develop coordination, rhythmic awareness and imagination. They are effectively introduced to classical ballet positions and terms as well as the etiquette of the ballet classroom.

Ages 3 - 4:

Ballet I

For students with little or no dance experience, this class is a wonderful, gentle introduction to the world of ballet.  Students will work on coordination, focus and memory while using their imagination and having fun.

Ages 5 - 6

Ballet II

For students with some prior (or not very recent) dance experience, this class will expand on the fundamentals of Ballet I.  Students will be introduced to the barre and will continue to grow their classical ballet vocabulary.

Ages 7-9

Ballet III

Students will learn additional ballet steps and terms in this class. They will also increase their speed and repetition. Some students will be put on pointe based on previous training and current ability. They will gain strength, focus, and knowledge of ballet in this class. Previous ballet training is highly recommended for this class.

Ages 10-12
Monday 6:30pm - 7:45pm

Ballet IV/Advanced and Ballet Funk!

Previous ballet training is required for this class. This is the most advanced class and will include pointe work and classical ballet variations. In this class students will review everything they have learned. Combinations will become more complicated and more strength will be needed to complete the class. Students will finalize the steps and terms to complete their repertoire of classical ballet.

Introduction to Ballet for Adults

It's never too late to chase your dream. This class offers an easy and highly enjoyable introduction to the basics of ballet.  Students will become familiar with all of the fundamentals of ballet in a low-pressure environment.  Whether you aspire to join the Joffrey or simply add the grace and poise of ballet to your dance vocabulary... you can do it, we can help!

Hip-Hop

Bust a move with Sheena! Get jiggy at the Conservatory! A great way to make your summer really sizzle. Each class starts with stretching and strengthening exercises and finishes with a Hip-Hop combination!

Bellydance with Elena Griffin

 Starts July 2!

The incredibly popular Bellydance is a very feminine art form and is known for its fluidity and grace, as well as its response to the call of the drum.

Participants will learn not only dance technique and movement, but also traditional rhythms, history, and culture in order to make this a well rounded experience.

Elena is known for her ability to have people dancing!

Beginner-Intermediate

From Falmouth to Fairy Land          with Falmouth's "Fairy Queen" Ms. Sally Egan

 

Take a week long adventure to Fairy Land as we explore fairy lore and customs. We’ll make fairy dolls fairy homes and we’ll end our week with a fabulous Falmouth Fairy Land Fanta-sea Tea Party!

 

Ages 4-9

Make-Believe Dolls Camp

with the Remarkable Sally Egan

Everyone loves Sally and this is just one reason why.  As she does (with Sheila) every day at the Falmouth Conservatory's Nursery-Kindergarten, she knows how to inspire and enchant children. Her summer Fairy Camps are always popular (and sold out... hint!) 

 

JAPANESE DOLLS

Taken from the pages of Rumer Godden's treasured Miss Happiness and Miss Flower, students will spend the week creating adventures for two amazing talking dolls! Students will craft their own doll-house-size doll in kimono.  Highlights of the week will include a Japanese Tea ceremony for the children and their new dolls.

In the second week we will work on books bound in an authentic Japanese technique as well as construct Japanese dolls, Japanese doll houses, make futons and other accessories for our dolls!

 

Weeks of July 27 and August 3

Monday - Friday   1-4 pm

Ages 6-9 *

One week (your choice) for only $195

* "Graduates" of past Make-Believe Camps who do not meet the age range may, at the teacher's discretion, join the class.

 


Circus Skills Camp

With Al Moniz

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!!

Here's your chance to have fun with all the basic circus skills: Juggling, Wirewalking, Balancing, Diabolo, Plate Spinning, Magic, Unicycling, Big wheels, Stilt Walking, Clowning**, Moonballs (Poi), Devil Sticking, Rolla Bolla, Globe Walking, and more!

**Please note - it is NOT a clown camp, general goofiness and gags are most welcome, but we don't really get into make-up, costumes, and all that.

Where else....at The Falmouth Conservatory at the (big) top of Highfield Hill!

When?

The week of August 17 -21 (1-3:30 PM).

For Whom?

Boys & girls 8 to 13 years old. Beginners or intermediate.

(And also OLDER, advanced students who have been in our camps before, or older advanced students who receive special permission from the main instructor, Al Moniz.

By Whom?

Instructors include Allan Moniz, Bob Pettengill, Geoff Way, and special guests. Teaching credits include summer camps in Falmouth & at Dartmouth Children's Museum (1995-1999) & after school programs in either Falmouth, Sandwich, Mashpee or Marion 1995 - present AND in-school classes at the Waldorf School of Cape Cod, and Falmouth Night School.

Why?

Because it's Fun! Fun! Fun! And includes a brief (20-30 minute) show will be presented by the participants at the end of the week for family & friends.

And, oh yes, camp size is limited!!!

How Much?

 

For the week of August 17 ( 2.5-hr/day sessions) $165

Price includes a small prize for completing the entire week. Other equipment will be provided.
